make the world a little smaller

Connect with real people

There are many virtual experiences out there, but we’re doing something different.

We are creating a vast network and connecting real, curious people with each other. Whether it’s learning about daily life and human rights issues with a Maasai warrior, what it’s like to be a young entrepreneur in Milan, or watching a short documentary about a transgender woman living in rural Mexico, we make sure that all of our content is created and shared in a real, personal, human way. Because we think humans are pretty incredible.

As we grow, so does our network and the ways we can interact with each other. Would you like to share your experiences and expertise on a topic? Let us know. We believe everyone has something valuable to share. We just want to organize it and get it out into the world.

global learning library

The Global Learning Library (GLL) is a cloud-based library of pre-recorded video sessions with practitioners, artists, community leaders, business professionals, activists and experts from around the world. 15-30 minute Q&A sessions are typically followed by a more detailed lecture component.

Our goal is to provide a wide range of unique and meaningful content that is easily accessible via affordable individual or institutional memberships. You can also request new, recorded speakers based on your own criteria or join our online communities.

virtual speakers

A natural extension of the GLL, we can arrange for most of our recorded speakers to meet with you live, via Zoom. Live sessions are especially great for community events and series, a company guest speaker, or an in-depth conversation with your class.

The majority of speaker fees go directly to the hired speaker, which provides financial support to people across the world. Love the idea, but would rather have a recorded session with someone not in our library? No problem — we do that, too.

UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (UNSDG)

All of our content incorporates the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Look for individual tags on content identifying the SDG the corresponds to the topic being discussed

Starting with a heavy focus on Sustainability, our goal is to set a standard for what to expect moving forward. We believe that all of us, including our schools, organizations and businesses need to take ownership of the climate and our impact on it, so this is where we begin.

SUSTAINABILITY & CARBON NEUTRALITY

We at the GLL and our parent company, AEA are taking a stand. We are following Patagonia’s standard of 1% for the Planet and Peter Singer’s standard of 5% of profits for the world’s most vulnerable.

On top of that, we are already working to make our company operations carbon negative by actively removing carbon from the atmosphere and making concentrated efforts to reduce the amount of carbon that we contribute. We are also aiming to become a Benefit company. We will be transparent in these endeavors.

I’ve been using the Global Learning Library this semester and it has been such a boon to my class. I teach Sustainable Environment, which is a course that is innovative and looks to exciting solutions to environmental problems. Having access to a wide variety of experts from all over the globe lets my students see what people are actually doing and how they’re approaching issues of sustainability without having to leave South Dakota. My students have been able to see how our deeper themes of our lecture are applied and also how different perspectives, environments, and cultures, require different solutions.

Having access to the library is far better than finding a YouTube video or Ted Talk because they feel much more personal, and the Q&A sessions were tailored to our needs.

As someone striving for inclusive excellence in STEM, it’s exciting to have such a broad diversity of voices, perspectives, and expertise from my students to see and hear from.  Not only that, but because the experts are virtual, students don’t have the financial burdens of travel—or physical burdens for those with other accessibility issues—that normally prevent students from getting these opportunities.

It’s a great resource for so many reasons.  I’m glad I included it as part of my course.
